A key example is FlexiVan’s use of SmartWay-verified low rolling resistance tires (LRRs) in its chassis fleet. The Environmental Protection Agency has determined LRRs reduce emissions for long-haul class 8 tractor-trailers by 3% or more.1 The EPA’s SmartWay certification program evaluates the ability of LRRs, through different design variables, to meet a minimum performance standard of reduced rolling effort.2 LRRs meeting the technology and performance criteria are added to the EPA’s SmartWay Verified List of LRR Tires.3 By partnering with tire suppliers that provide OEM and retread SmartWay certified products, Flexi-Van’s chassis fleet provides its motor carrier customers with increased fuel efficiency and aids in lowering carbon emissions.
